Commercial & Industrial Applications
The recent growth in the price of electricity has made industry much more attentive to lighting costs. Compounded by the risk of brownouts during high demand periods rising electricity cost has become one more headache in the managing of business operations.
The challenge for most businesses is to reduce their lighting costs and improve their lighting. With the broad range of ROMlight electronic HID ballasts and fixtures both these goals can be achieved.
Value Proposition
ROMlight eHID technology produces superior light levels with significantly less power consumption. This superior performance, at a lower cost, is further enhanced by extending the lamp life up to 40,000 hours, depending on lamp selection. The ease of adapting various lighting control systems to the microprocessor driven, eHID ballast is unique to this type of technology.
Economic Considerations
Commercial/Industrial/Municipal consumers of lighting equipment, maximize their return by acquiring the maximum amount of useful light output (lumens) over the longest possible time frame (hours) at the lowest possible cost (total kilowatt hours + maintenance costs)).
The ROMlight eHID lighting solution provides a variety of economic benefits:
- Higher internal efficiency (94% vs 75% to 88%)
- More useful light produced over a longer period of time due to a high Lumen Maintenance (90% to 86% vs 65% to 75%) which allows lower wattage fixtures to be used on retrofit projects.
- Retrofit savings 40% to over 60% with controls
- One third fewer fixtures can be used in new buildings.
- Longer lamp life (up to 40,000 hours vs 12,000 hours to 20,000 hours) dramatically reduces maintenance costs.
- Dimming fixtures on an "as needed basis" can push power savings over 60%.
- New installations can use up to 1/3 fewer fixtures due to superior Lumen Maintenance.
- Cool running reduces air conditioning costs.
- Quiet operation eliminates employee and customer complaints.
Retrofit Savings
Retrofit projects usually are accomplished by replacing the existing, obsolete magnetic fixtures on a one to one basis. In some cases the existing optics can be salvaged and re-used.
Normally 400 Watt fixtures are replaced with 250 Watt or 320 Watt eHID fixtures depending on what light level the client wants. The 250 Watt replacement is most popular. The replacement of 1000 Watt fixtures with 450 Watt eHID fixtures is also popular.
Utility rebates to encourage power conservation vary widely from utility to utility between $400 to $1000 per Kilowatt saved.
Business Case – Replacing 400 Watt Fixture with 250 Watt eHID Fixture
Assuming a power cost of $.12 per Kwh, and annual usage of 6,000 hours the annual power cost savings for a 250 watt replacement is $137 per replaced fixture. Maintenance saving per year over 10 years is $20 per fixture. The utility rebate, assuming $400 per Kilowatt saved will be, $76 per fixture.
Assuming a net new fixture cost of $400 the simple payback for this business case will be 2.5 years.
New Installation Savings
