Hydroponics & Greenhouse Applications
The ROMlight dimmable electronic HID ballast plays a significant role in producing primary or supplemental light in hydroponics and greenhouse applications.
This artificial light can be used for plant growth in three different ways:
- To provide all the light that a plant needs to grow.
- To supplement sunlight, especially in winter months when daylight hours are short.
- To increase the length of the day in order to trigger specific growth and flowering.
Using the same lamps more light is produced from the ROMlight ballast while consuming less energy when compared to traditional ballasts.
Plant growth varies directly with the amount of light energy received on the leaf
surfaces. A longer period of light exposure means more light energy on the plant, which leads to
faster growing times.
Key Considerations
By combining the ROMlight ballast with a sunlight sensor the ballast can be turned up or down as sunlight levels vary. Sometimes referred to as light harvesting the effect is to control light levels to optimize growth and lighting costs.
